Healthy Toddler Breakfast Ideas
Feeding toddlers requires an act of great patience. One moment porridge, smoothies, apples are their favourite thing to eat. The next it whatever food item is the worst thing to ever have been put on their plate! It can be testing. And their appetites and pallets change from one second to the next. With each child, the more relaxed I get about feeding toddlers. I have found that offering a bit of variety on their plate is key to this approach. Offering variety is hardest at breakfast time. I have developed a few classics that seem to be consumed no matter what mood my toddler wakes in. So what do you feed your toddler for breakfast? More or less all my breakfast ideas contain fruit. It seems to ensure at least some of the meal is consumed. It adds colour which helps! It adds a natural sweetness. And of course it adds nutrients. I have developed quite a few recipes that can be made in advance. This makes rushed mornings a lot less stressful! By making food in advance I also find that I can present more options on the breakfast plate. I’ll often split a freezer pancake between my toddler and baby, and then fill their plates with a few more options that the pancake can be dipped into or accompanied with. I also find that less is usually better than more. If they are really hungry, or really love something (that day), they will ask for more. If I have a freezer stash waiting with pre-made toddler breakfasts, then its easy to pull out a second helping. And that way less food is wasted.
