Homemaking for my Family
When I was still at school my nickname within my closet circle of friends was ‘granny-pants’. Even then I was an old soul. I liked to crochet. I loved to cook and bake. I liked my room to feel cozy and changed my bookcase display more often than I would like to admit. I dreamed of being a wife and mother. I love homemaking. At times it is repetitive, even boring. But there is a calming simplicity found in the reoccurring routines of homemaking. Organising and cleaning our home for the benefit of my family and I brings me great joy. While I may not be the breadwinner; my homemaking is essential to the health and happiness of our family. Even though my input as a mother is probably more important to our family in this season, I often feel a greater sense of accomplishment through home management than I do through parenting. I think that’s because you are never finished as a parent. Where as in my home I can see a task through from start to finish. Organising, creating, gardening… I love it all. I love to cook. I love that I am able to make non-toxic cleaners to improve our health and save us money. Homemaking brings such variety to my day, even though so many of the tasks themselves are repetitive. I have learnt so many new skills and continue to experiment and grow through homemaking. Even though we live in a modern world, the skills of a housewife remain fairly unchanged. And the great thing about the internet is its never too late to learn something new! In this section I document my journey as I develop my homemaking skills, recipes and creations!
