Hot Date Night Meal Ideas
Dating your spouse is important. These hot date night meal ideas are perfect for a romantic evenings at home. Spicy, simple and quick. These recipes are sure to get sparks flying!
I am very fortunate that even after two children and several years of marriage, my husband and I continue to date. We have a fantastic baby sitter who comes at least once a week. This means that Simon and I can go out together for some quality time. Most weeks, as well as getting out for a date night, we will also have an in the house date night. I’ll write a post soon on in the house date night ideas. If we’re not ordering in, then we try to cook up something special. We rarely do starters, but a special meal, and of course dessert! This recipe section is filled with in the house date night meals that Simon and I have put together.
Now, Simon is not a natural cook. I think even the idea of cooking makes him break out into a nervous sweat. That being said, he still does it, because he knows I appreciate it. With Simon in mind, I have tried to write these recipes with the beginner cook in mind. Simon can’t bear any ambiguity in a recipe. Therefor you will find no ‘pinches’ or ‘splashes’ of anything. Cook and saute times have been made clear. These recipes have husbands in mind! I have tried to write the instructions with as little ambiguity as possible. Of course I know that many men out there enjoy cooking in the kitchen. So these are no means plain recipes. They are meant to be in someway special or showstoppers. A lot of the meals are intended to be shared. All the recipes in this section are intended for just two people. If you are hoping to pair the meal with an in the house date night activity, then see my list of home date night ideas coming very soon.
I have also written out our favourite cocktail recipes for the drinker among you. I can take no credit here. Simon my not be a natural cook, but he is the cocktail master. Where a particular cocktail suits the recipe I have indicated so, or suggested the perfect dessert pairing. I also hope to put together a wine list, of delicious wines, and the food they are best served alongside.
I am definitely not a wine expert, but it’s the sort of thing Simon pays attention to. I’m pleased to say that I have been taking notes. Consequently I have started to create my tried and trusted wine list! Of course all wines (and meals) will be preferred or disliked by different pallets. These are just the wines that we have enjoyed, that are a bit different, and that we come back to again and again. Some of the wines are more expensive, and others are very affordable. The list is simply our most enjoyed bottles!
As these recipes are intended for two, I have tried to make them quick to prepare. Or desserts that you can make ahead. I know that I like to rustle something fancy up, as quick as possible. That way we can enjoy our evening together, rather than in the kitchen. Most of the recipes follow a theme, and therefore pair well with a particular dessert and/or drink. Therefore each recipe comes with a menu idea. I’ve even suggested sides and nibbles to keep you going while you cook!
I hope that meals inspire some at home romance! Truly I think dating your spouse is one of the most important things that you can do after having children. Its also one of the hardest things to make time for. It took us a long time to find a babysitter that was reliable and so trustworthy. Of course, its not always possible to find a babysitter or even get them booked in! That’s when the in the house romance becomes so important. I hope these meals get the romance flaring. Sparks flying! I hope they feel special enough that you don’t miss restaurant service!
